Spindle-tree – Destiny
We are woven into the lives of others and how we contribute to that is important. Have control over the self. We are the sum of our actions. It is the result of these actions that must now be dealt with. The need to face the inevitable, what cannot be avoided or denied. This statement may sound a little fatalistic and it does not have to be negative if you have woven a fine cloth rather than a web. You will be stuck in suspension if you don’t let go of the past, deal with the now, and then embrace the future. On a spiritual level it is the death the initiate faces in order to rebirth. This can involve regression before progression.
This tree gains its name directly from what it was used for, the Spindle. It was also known as thePeg or Skewer tree. The berries are poisinous, but made good flea powder. Those that usedthe spindle were known as spinsters, they were usually the women and girls of the village without children.
The Spindle symbolises the cloth we have woven in life. Utimately it is the thread that links the body to the spirit. In mythology it is linked to the three fates or moraes who control these threads of life.
