Hawthorn – Inner Strength
Every one has a well of hidden potential. Once this well has been sourced an inner strength will be discovered. This can then be refreshed at will. The access to this supply comes from facing the obstacles and weathering the storms that come with this season. These limitations are not permanent and can be expanded. Any aggression felt in this period should be used passively to create or reinforce defences. What the fight is about is maintaining your own ground.A renewal of feminine strength, the fertility is organic and when spread aids the growth of personal potential.
The wood of the Hawthorn is very tough and so are the roots, both were used to make small tools, knife handles, etc. It has a fine grain when polished but is not plentiful enough to have been widely used. The leaves were infused to make a cheap replacement for tea. The berries held medicinal propreties and treated conditions of the heart and blood.
As a symbol of rebirth the Hawthorn signifies renewed fecundity. A tree of the spring, there is an element of maturity to it. Traditionally used for hedging, it represented the ground established within. Often used in tradition and ritual to celebrate the fullness of the spring and early summer.
