Alder – Stability
The Alder represents the need to create stability in a fluid environment. It is the ability to find rational solution in an unpredictable, emotional and spiritually motivated environment. The negative urge is to go for a quick fire answer, but this can only make a temporary plug.
The timber of the Alder dries out quickly but when it is used in water it excels. A natural for foundations of bridges and jetties, it is thought the wood was used in the intial building of Venice. The tree produces nitrogen enriching elements to the soil.
In Celtic mythology the Alder is associated with tribal leader Bran the Blessed. A man of gigantic proportions, it was said he could carry his troups across rivers. After being mortally wounded in battle he requested that his severed head be taken to the White Hill to be buried. Thereafter he look out to sea and would sing out a warning of invaders. By this site now stands the Tower of London.
